"The BB 10 is a great boat to sail and surprisingly comfortable below. My friend, Judy Lawson from Annapolis, raced one transatlantic, singlehanded. Made it to England doublehanded then lost her rig mid Atlantic in the old OSTAR race on her return. A BB 10 is a very adventurous choice for a Transatlantic singlehanded racer! Do you know the story of this? She had made the cockpit much smaller and added a dodger for protection. Otherwise, it was just a BB 10. There was a movie made of the race with onboard footage of the BB 10 before and after the dismasting. A lower shroud failed.
The whole boat was picked up and placed on deck by a Russian freighter. She ended in in the USSR and her money, passport and everything but the clothes on her back were stolen. She never was able to reclaim the boat and had quite an adventure in even getting out of the USSR (this was back in the "bad old days" when relationships weren't so good).
It was a bright red boat called "SERTA Perfect Sleeper" (after her mattress sponsorship). I always wondered what happened to that boat - there is probably still a BB 10 in Russia!"

"Judy Lawson was a friend of mine and a neighbor on a farm where we both rented houses . We both sailed International Fourteens at the same time and later, I helped a little in preparing her BB 10, "Serta Perfect Sleeper" for the race. Her cockpit was greatly modified to reduce the volume.
  Judy disappeared from Annapolis after the race. I ran into her a few years later after she had moved to Maine. She was always interesting and had become quite "mystical" in her beliefs. I´m sure she is still around, living an outdoor life near the sea to it´s fullest, with her ruddy face and sun beached hair perhaps a bit whiter now."
